Health Assistant




The Health Assistant Course at Ben Franklin is taught by combining the latest health care literature and related vocational materials with the students' work experience training.

The Course leads the student toward productive employment in the health care field and becoming a responsible member of society.

OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the Health Assistant Course, the students will be able to:
  1. Define their role on the health care team.


  2. Care for patients of all ages and backgrounds.


  3. Identify and apply basic health assisting procedures in caring for patients in health care facilities.


  4. Identify the importance of desirable personal qualities in their relations with patients and others.


  5. Demonstate a knowledge of "ethical conduct" and the importance of confidentiality.


  6. Obtain employment in the health care field.

    Work Experience Training:


    Students will be required to participate in the work experince training conducted during enrollment in this program. Students in this course must obtain 55 hours supervised hands-on training in a long-term care facility performing a variety of duties and skills learned in the classroom setting.


    Evaluation:


    Students are evaluated every nine weeks on written and performance tests and must maintain a "C" average each semester.



    Certification:


    Successful graduates of this program will be issued a Kanawha County Schools Vocational Permit and will be eligible to sit for the Certified Nursing Assistant Exam conducted by the State of West Virginia.
